I took this corner of a page I had doodled on with ballpoint, put it in corel painter to add the color and the type. I like the addition of the text. Before, the page looked empty and disconnected.
This is Oliver Wendall, our cat. This was sketched in the span of about five minutes, and I didn't even try to draw every pose he made! I thought cats were supposed to be lazy! Done in col-erase pencil with a little w/c added later.
Haha! This is what happens when I try too hard to be imaginative! This silly thing was sketched in black col-erase pencil, w/c added later, and with not much effort to be neat. I just felt messy that day!
A pig from morguefile. Sometimes I just don't feel like putting in the effort of a neater sketch or painting. This was an interesting photo; I may go back later and try this again. With more focus next time!
I am feeling the same way you are. I have about 5 different drawings I'm working on, and I just don't have the patience for any of them or the perspective problem the one is giving me. It's the time of year, I think. Like you said, you need some sunshine on your face, some vitamin D. I take D daily because of my thyroid, but I think it's just that this winter has been especially long and drawn out. I live in the south, so it should be spring by now (at least by my biological clock anyway!). Just do messy stuff and you'll get thru it. I love these sketches that you did and if you consider them messy, well, then messy is great because these are wonderful. Love that pig's face! Nicely done cat poses. Ours is still pretty active, too, so it's hard to sketch him unless he's asleep and he keeps one eye on us.
ReplyDeleteWell, I think it's a fun, interesting, and well done little series of drawings. Your wacky little bird made me smile, Oliver Wendall made me miss my kitties (long gone due to Celestial Discharge), ... all in all, I enjoyed all of them. .... I think I've read some of those "cat who" books, too! nancy
ReplyDeleteFabulous sketches Raena! I think it's amazing how words can pull together a series of sketches. It makes it a cohesive whole. Oliver Wendall is a total doll! You captured him in all his kittiness! The bird and pig are wonderful too. I'm doing the sunshine chant.
ReplyDeleteFine pig! (I think I read that somewhere). Forget neat - it's great. The cat poses in 5 minutes!! Remarkable that you caught them all so well and in good proportion. And, OMG, adding text and color to your drawings on top - you can illustrate a children's book! "The Cat and the Carrot", by Dorena Youlton. And you'll be famous and I'll say, "I knew her when she was just Raena."
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful set of sketches. Fantastic poses and well captured!:)
ReplyDeleteColor Pencil Drawing: Bunch of Roses
Delightful sketches! The lively colors and humor brightened my day. I especially love the cat poses you captured so gracefully.
ReplyDeleteRaena, RAena, Raena! ALL your work and words are inspiring - even when you say you haven't got anything!!! I have just caught up with your blog and I'm still laughing about the PARROT!!! Chuckle, chuckle...
ReplyDeleteGeez, even unfocused you come up oozing charm. The bird really is my favorite, but the pig is hard to resist... and and and
ReplyDeletewell, you get the idea - LOVE visiting your pages, and so glad you share them! :)
Love the carrot...perhaps you needed an extra serving of vegetables for the day :-D
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment!
Oh, long winters can be hard on everyone, but you certainly don't lack creativity to go through this season! All these sketches are really nice, the colorful bird being my favorite :)
ReplyDeleteI like the painting with the cats. (Especially the one licking it's tummy.
ReplyDeleteI like how you left the sketches and painted around them. Very nice look.
Really nice serie,
ReplyDeleteI like your cat, the pauses are very good, and it is nice to draw from real.
I like also your first one with text and illustration, I was trying to do it with photoshop but did not work.
Great stuff Raena, beautiful lines, lovely colors, love the shades, love the illustration ^^ all in a exceptional package under one post. Brilliant
ReplyDeleteNice drawings for not feeling good about them!!
ReplyDeleteContinued success
Isn't that what journaling is about-recording the up and downs of your life? Nice work.
ReplyDeleteHi Raena! What lovely little sketches here! I was once told that the antsy, restless feeling was often a signal that something new was coming, or a renewed sense of direction was on the way. Whether that is true or not, keep drawing through it...perhaps you'll come out of it with surprising discoveries. Cheers!
ReplyDeleteI love them all! I especially like the looser sketches, the quick kitty drawings are wonderful. And I like Jen's explanation about the antsy feeling. Maybe a little cabin fever, maybe something new on the way?
ReplyDeleteGreat sketches Raena, it's so hard to get the cats down quickly and you've done it. The bird is fun. Hope the cabin fever goes soon. The sun has come out here today and it is so up-lifting after an absence of a week so I can't imagine what it's like after a long winter.
ReplyDeleteThese are great! I love the cats with watercolor.
ReplyDeleteThe sketches of your cat are awesome! I dont think I could sketch that way in 5 minutes
ReplyDeleteWonderful sketches! Love those cats! and the pig is so sweet! I love pigs, especially after I saw "Sharlotte's web". (that's kids movie)
ReplyDeleteThese are great! I especially love the quick cat pose sketches! The bath one cracks me up! Really nice work :)
ReplyDeleteLove your piglet! Always thought it would be great to have one for a pet if they only stayed about 15 lbs.!!!!
