Yevgenia Watts, of Watercolored Hands

Also known as Yevgenia Watts! I really need to start doing these a little larger! This is about five inches square, making her face only an inch and a half? It's hard to do too much that small. Although, you would think it would stop me from overworking!! This is for Julia Kay's Portrait Party again.

  1. Lovely, Raena,

And doesn't look overworked to me - trust me I am an expert at fiddling and overworking!

  2. My goodness that's a lot of detail, I would not have guessed the size correctly. You did a lovely job.

  4. I think this really great. Love the way you have ditched the ink and come out with great values in the watercolor - you are getting better and better. This scene looks to me like a scene from Harry Potter - I don't know why except maybe I have Harry Potter on the brain.

  5. your work is SO good! and thanks for your comments lately. I want you to know I accidently rejected your comment on the newspaper one. I loved your comment, I immediately laughed out loud and tried to accept it ... all while driving. oops I accidently rejected it....and I know. i shouldn't do that while driving.

  6. Now it shows that you've got surgeon's hands ^^ Able to work with your brush with such details on such a small scale.... =)
There's something that I've discovered, it's just my opinion anyway Raena, I really like it when you work with soft colors...but when you do with dark and stronger tones, it brings out the subject really well... I think that's a great way to do it, strong colors and coupling with your delicate brush strokes... AWESOMENESS!
Thanks for the comments =) Me happy with my first art-check

  9. Thats a lot of detail for such a small painting, but all good details (you have a good eye for it), not over worked at all and I like it (especially the darker back ground, ads nice drama to it). Well done.

  10. HOW do you work this small! I think this is really great - good values, and nice sense of her character. It doesn't look overworked to me, the only thing I think might push it a little further is if you left out the background detail, so her head would be really emphasised. But that's just my opinion.

  13. Gorgeous! I don't know the technical stuff, but aesthetically, 'it works'. Lots of personality in that face!

  14. So much details and delicate brush stokes in a tiny space for a great result! Bravo
    You know the saying:
if you can draw small, you can draw big. Apparently the other way around is more difficult.

  15. Raena, I was drawn to the thumbnail of this sketch on Flickr, and loved this painting.
The only thing I find with overworking a watercolour painting, is that it loses it's freshness and spontaneity - but that doesn't mean it looses it's quality as an artwork.
I also agree with curiouscrow about the figure in the background, it does distract from the subject, even in the photo, where it appears very blurred.

  16. ABSOLUTELY STUNNING! Like others, I wonder how you can work so small, but obviously it is where your talent lies.
