Regarding Google+

Eh...I finally caved and joined the ranks of Google+ after avoiding it for forever, not wanting to get involved in one more internet thing that would steal time from art.  Though I've not spent any time yet trying to figure it out, I did add people to my circles, to the point that I reached my limit for the day already.  Whether this was a good decision remains to be seen, but so far I am overwhelmed as the page scrolls and scrolls and scrolls and is filled with some things that I have no interest in whatsoever.  As I type this, JayZ fills several sections.  JayZ?  I could care less about him!  Dwell...yes, that one is great! I really only expected information on posts from the people I connected with.  Perhaps you have some opinions on this?  Should I run?  Is it a colossal time sponge? ...or does it really make it easier to keep up with friends?

Over the years, my online friends and I have had many conversations about finding time for art.  I have a new one for you.  When my husband and I moved to this apartment in October, we put off getting cable since we spend more time online than watching television.  One week turned into two, into three.  I DO NOT MISS IT--AT ALL!  And the best part of it all...I have so much more time for making art!  I have decided that I will not be going back.  No cable. No television.  Life is so much better!  It is a time sponge!  Sucks the life right out of life!

So with all of that said...I think I should probably post some art, since that is my blog's purpose after all!  How about some Burbs!  Love this movie so much...it is difficult for me to hit pause.  I stopped working in this sketchbook for now due to a boredom which slowly crept in.  I like the idea of drawing from movies when that is all you can get to at the time.  I only have a few more spreads that I haven't posted yet.  Maybe one day I'll start this one back up...but I am hoping that I find so much more inspiration in other things that it will not be necessary!

  1. You are very good at faces, Raena! I don't watch either to the point that I have no idea what "The Burbs" is.

I am so happy to have you back,

    xoxo

  2. Thank you, Vicki! "The Burbs" is actually a movie from 1989. I tend to prefer some of the older ones...a sign of aging?

  3. Amazing faces! I love the expressions. I have been putting off Goggle + for the same reasons. I just hate to add one more. Well see what happens. Good to see you posting again... I love your work!

    1. Thank you, Lynn! I'm so confused on the Google + at the moment. Hopefully I'll get it worked out soon. I'm already seeing an increase in email.

  4. These are great! Vicki and Lynn are right, your faces are wonderful. As for Google+, I am kind of in the same boat. I have had an account forever and pretty much ignored it. Now it seems to be becoming a more mature and serious contender in the social media scene and so I figure I better pay attention. I've just started trying to sort it out as well. I have to decide how I want to use the circles other than sorting how I view content coming in.

    1. Thanks, Rebecca! I just realized it changed my profile name to dorena922. I hope that doesn't start confusing everyone!

  5. Bravo for getting rid of cable! I never saw the Blurbs but I believe I recognize a few of the actors from your art - great work! Re Google Plus, I am pretty much where Rebecca is, and have kind of the same feeling about it beginning to mature. Dorena, Dorena - that may be your name, but you will always be Raena to me!

    1. I don't even think we'll put cable in our house. I love not having it! 'Burbs'....short for 'Suburbs', and it's IMO a hilarious tale of suburbanites fighting back. It's one of those movies that you either hate, or love. I think I'm one of the weirdos! :)

  6. I don't get Google+ I'm there. I plus my posts and some of my arty friends but thats all I do.

I stream tv through my comp (hdmi lead) so can either watch something I've chosen or be online.

Glad to see you posting art again and look forward to more.

    1. Thanks, Sue! I've thought of watching tv on my computer but I would hate to lose the time that I just found. Although I see the advantage...getting to hit pause whenever you want!

  7. I rarely watch tv, I prefer to paint! I joined Google + but like everyone else I don't know how it works and haven't the time to dedicate to it. Great portraits!

  8. Hi Raena, love your characters, I guess I'll have to watch the film "The blurbs" now to appreciate your post!
As for Google+, it is getting a bit better and I too am starting to use it more. I also started getting strange posts like a picture of Justin Bieber with his trousers down below his crotch showing most of his under pants - what possible interest could I find in that? Turns out though that you can turn these posts (called What's Hot) off by going to the What's Hot page and clicking on the gear cog.
Wish I could get rid of the telly, but my wife loves it - I can spend hours away from it :)
Lovely to see you on here again.

  9. Fantastic art work! I really do adore your style- so unique and well done. I think I could recognize it anywhere.
Google Plus- I'm on it but never look at it.
Cable TV- I'd love to do without but Jeff really enjoys it. He doesn't spend as much time online. Funny thing is though, we mostly watch DVD's. Go figure!
