EDM #10, painted

I'm new to painting. (Don't let the watercolors on my previous post mislead you into thinking that I'm an old pro at it...I had an instructor standing over me, telling what to do!) Corel Painter is one of my favorite places to play around with it, since I don't worry about messing up a drawing, or wasting material on something ugly.

So, this is the sketch of my hand, painted with oil paints, in Corel. Very overdone, I think. (especially when I see Janey's !)

  1. I no clue what you mean by painting a pencil or ink sketch in Corel Painter---but this looks great to me.

  2. It's neat that you are using digital painting, it's way over my head. My husband tinkers with it, and has found this site useful http://www.thegnomonworkshop.com/ He only uses the free tutorials but they have helped him a lot.
I think the hand looks nice. You could always print out the sketch and do multiple copies of the image and different ways. Good work!

  3. Thanks for the link--I'll definitely check it out! I have a book on it, around here somewhere, buried under mountains of other art books. I never went through it though. I know I should, but I never manage to just sit down to go through it. I end up playing instead!

And thanks, Winna. I did the drawing for this on regular paper, scanned it into my computer, and then digitally painted it with Corel Painter X software.

  4. Awesome job, I love this! I love the result. Learning Corel Painter is on the list of things I HAVE to do once my exams are over - I'm always so impressed when I see what other people are able to do.

  6. Hi Raena,
thanks for the comment! For the cat sketches, I usually start with the ears and I just try to sketch as fast as possible by just getting the basic shape of the cat. Oh, and it works better if they're sleeping or just not moving much!

  7. I think it's wonderful - and not overdone at all. If we all compared ourselves to Ms. Janey, we'd all feel a bit inadequate, now wouldn't we? :-) She is the queen of line, I think...
