I'm alive!

Whoa! So much has happened since my last post--though not much in the way of sketching--that, to tell it all, I will have to break it up into digestible chunks!

Thank you Dan for the kick in the pants to get going again! I had a good laugh when you said you checked to see if I posted, and then you didn't feel so bad for not posting either! Funny thing is, I do the same, only now instead of saying, "well, I'm still a post ahead of him", it's "well, I'm only one or two behind. I can still catch up!" And Wendy, thank you for the nice email and the encouragement to continue! And thank you to everyone who has left comments!

Things have been a little hectic around here. And maybe the weather is adversely affecting my attitude. I'll get into that next time. For now, here is a sketch I did in ink and colored pencil. It is from a photo on morgue.file. (the ones that are free use) Unfortunately, I forgot to get the information about it, since I never intended to post this one. (But, right now I'm desperate for material!)

The next picture is me, drawn by my very talented six year old niece. Don't you just love the expression in the eyes? Oh, and she didn't leave anything out, including the sparkle in my teeth, and the scar from the wasp sting between my eyes!!! (I do have eyebrows though :))

update: found the photo used as reference! http://www.morguefile.com/archive/display/75878

  1. I love this sketch. I know what you mean about the weather...it's far too humid to do much tbh. Your niece looks like one to look out for with so much attention to detail. And at least your picture self won't have to worry about plucking her eyebrows:P

  2. Sarah, that gave me a good laugh! Thanks!

It has been seriously hot here! The "feels-like" temp has been 108-110 degrees for over two weeks straight! I'm melting!

  3. Pretty darn hot here too - My "outside temperature" gauge on the car dash reached 103 this week. Whew!

Welcome back! My virtual world was a bit askew with you gone. Judging from your expression on your niece's portrait, I assume all your real world happenings were good ones (I hope so.) I too love your sketch - really, really well done. Don't leave us again - my virtual self might need psychotherapy or something.

  4. Hey Raena! Thanks so much for your wish. And yeah I am trying to post from time to time too but like I said, for the passed couple of weeks it's been designing the wedding invitation card for me, and before that I was home in Malaysia spending quality time with my nephews and my niece.

I like your sketch but wow, your 6 year old niece really did do a wonderful job! The way she did the eyes is just priceless! :)

  6. Welcome back! Now I feel a little bit less guilty because I've been doing no drawing either. We are very naughty... love your niece's drawing, especially the big blue eyes :)

  8. Thank you everybody! It's amazing how I can let myself not post for so long, when I know it makes me feel irritable! I feel so much better now! I'm going to see how many times I can manage to post by the end of June!

Danette, oh I wish I considered this "lovely warm weather"!! It feels like I'm trapped in a sauna! (Though I just went to check where you're from...and have to admit you might find it warm and lovely!! ;) Personally, I prefer the seventies. That's not asking too much, is it?

  11. Isn't it great how kids notice and are willing to put down everything about us that we would definitely edit out. Fun blog you have.
God bless and keep up the art work
