A New Month, A Fresh Start!

July is going to be a better month for sketching. I refuse to have another embarrassing month with only one post! Here's to a new leaf!

This sketch is of my husband at Starbuck's. I was really frustrated because nothing was coming out right. I'm posting it as is, because I did it in my watercolor sketchbook (homemade) and will probably be destroying it tomorrow when I add color! (Inner critic has found an amplifier...He's screaming at me!)

Anyway, I was wound up on my last post and said so much had happened that I would have to tell you in bits. Well, I've had time to calm down and now I think maybe I was just overreacting. It hardly seems worth telling anymore. Except the part about my uncle coming and staying with us for two weeks. He is one of the most interesting people I've ever met! He's traveled the world and has so many stories. Plus, he's an artist. How cool is that!

  1. Great sketch! The expression part is totally nailed! I love the details at the back too, but I am sure your husband is really really happy with the sketch too :)

  2. I just commented on this on the Flickr site--I would like to know what EDM group you are in---I am in the Flicker one---and I think you must be in the same original group as I am--I just quit the new one today and will stay on just the one Flicker one which is more user friendly with more comments--at least that was my experience.

  3. Thank you Alex and Winna!

Alex, I think I captured his expression but something is amiss in the face. It "almost" looks like him! ;)

Winna, I'm only able to post to the flicker group. The EDM Superblog, I think is closed to new posters. That's what I thought anyway. I don't have a twitter or facebook account. Those are the only ones I even know about! Is there another flickr group with EDM?

  4. Whether it "looks" like your husband or not, it is a fine drawing. I like the people in the background too. Very nice.

  5. I think you're going to have to tell your inner critic to hush! This looks great. I love have you've blocked out the shadows around your husbands nose. Nice context as well.

  6. I think you should tell that inner critic to put a sock in it! The drawing is very nice - complete and interesting. Don't know if the likeness is accurate, but the drawing is wonderful! nancy

  7. Thank you Nancy, David, and Suzanne!

Nancy...what a great idea! When I draw my inner critic and can draw a sock in his mouth! (or her)

  10. I also love your depth of field - the composition is terrific. Really like the way you handled his shirt from pockets to hands. I threw something away yesterday... you've taught me to put away and wait for a fresh eye. Thanks!

  11. Wow beautiful.... but I know the feeling about colouring I always start and then midway through start wishing there is a undo button some were on the page;)

  14. Very nice drawing. All the sketches look great. It's tough to find time in our hectic culture to draw and sketch. Kudos to you for doing so!
