Sketching while video-ing

I was sucked into the YouTube zone tonight, watching video after video...one topic leading to the next. Before long, I was watching a video called the Bird Flu Hoax.(produced last year, not about the current flu pandemic) No idea how I got there, but I was there and I watched. Sort of. Mostly what I found was a video of a person remaining fairly still as he talked. To me that meant a perfect model! This is Dr. Ott.

I tried adding a little color in Corel Painter X. It's okay, but what I really wanted to do was add watercolor to it. I was just too lazy to get everything out. Maybe tomorrow I'll give that a shot.

It's on printer paper again. I don't know why I spend so much on sketchbooks, I always end up back on the cheap stuff!

  1. I know what you mean about sketchbooks. I like to use copy machine paper. I have a plastic clipboard from WalMart, that opens for paper storage. Perfect for paper, pencils, erasers, pens, ruler, etc. When I was teaching, I started carrying that with me and I would sketch while I had to sit on duty after school, at pep rallies, etc. I don't like the rough texture of most sketchbooks, prefering the smooth texture of the copy paper. I try to rush through my sketchbooks so I can hurry up and finish it, hoping to get another with better paper. Trouble is, most of them are sealed, so I can't tell what I'm getting.
I spend too much time on Facebook, but I'm just learning how to do that.
I've sketched from tv, but not from You Tube. Those things are so slow, it would make for some good models.

  2. This is beautiful Raena! :) I really love the sketch version, and the Corel X version is very nice too, and I think you know that I am more of a sketch person already.
I'll be posting something new today soon, I finally made it to Louisiana, and that tornado in Memphis 2 days ago for me stranded for a night there -__-

  3. Nice sketch! Braindead or tired, wasting time, most of the time, I can relate - I will be interested to see it with the watercolor. I haven't tried watercolor with pencil and have been meaning to. It's on my list.

  6. I am totally with you on the braindeading. I find myself doing that WAY more than I should. Nice job, though, working yourself out of it. You're an inspiration.

  7. Thanks all!

Cecelia, I carry a clipboard as often as I carry a sketchbook! Somehow I breathe easier if I know it doesn't have to stay in my book!

  8. Hi Raena, Thanks for visiting my blog and commenting! Nice to hear from you. I love Dr. Ott! I have about 5 different sketch books and I tend to grab whatever paper is handy also. I'm trying to keep things in one place, but it just seems like too much commitment sometimes.
