Some Corel Painter Doodles

These are from imagination. No rhyme or reason. Not technically correct. They just became. I thought they looked kind of cool. Anyway, I wanted to get something up on the first. So Happy February everyone! Spring is right around the corner!

I think the guy sketch is begging for some color, and maybe a quote above his head. What do you think?

  1. I love your style! The guy sketch looks cool to me as it is, but a quote would be pretty interesting, too. Maybe do the quote in bright red (for example) to answer your need for color?

  2. These are awesome - I bought Corel Painter ages ago and barely used it so you've inspired me to dig out my wacom tablet again. I like the guy, maybe he wants a red flower on his lapel :)

  3. IMO technical perfection kills art- these are both fabulous - I like the freshness of your girl and the expression of your guy immensely

  5. Raena, you keep raising the bar! These are outstanding: immediate, lively and at the same time poster-like. Just a great job.

  6. The minute I saw that guy, I thought I wonder what he's thinking. I have corel painter. I haven't used it in ages. You're making me think about it.

  7. I love these! They're creative and fun. I love the expression on the girl's face and her red top, and the man looks like he's really sweet. Love his earring - nice touch! nancy

  8. I really like them just as is. But if you want colour for the one with the man, what about having one colour for the back ground and leave him as is. I like it without text, it leaves you thinking about what he might be doing or thinking, where has he been or going... its neat.

  9. The girl is so pensive and I love trying to guess what the guy is thinking. Sometimes words would spoil the drawing. Nice!

  10. I like your sketches here, and I love your ballpoint sketches of the cat, bird, girl etc below, and also the girl with the tree hands. Kool! I like to sketch while watching TV too. :)

  11. The expressions on these are priceless! :) The eyes of the girl are so pretty, and the guy's really got some personality there, and seems like he's got a lot of story to tell too.
I'd say lines are great, depth is awesome. ^^

  12. I like them both too, especially the man. Since you asked for suggestions, I think the idea of a red flower in his lapel is good, maybe just a small one, and it would add to his air of mystery--what is he thinking and where is he going? For some reason, when I saw the girl I thought she should have a sweet little bird perched on her head but I admit that is rather odd! I do like her as she is.

  14. Thank you all very very much! I'm always a little apprehensive about posting the things from my imagination; I guess because it exposes the real me.?

Janene...funny, I thought of a bird with the girl too!

And thank you all for the ideas!!

  20. I have a page in my other Moleskine where I try to draw faces out of the blue or from memory. I do this to see what I know without looking. Figure the more I have a feel for it in a vaccuum, the easier it would be to sketch someone quickly in the field. They vary from bad, to goofy, to pretty good.

I especially like the man. The highlights are all very consistent, and really give him form. Love the white highlights on the grey ground, and his expression - peaceful, or measured (like he is counting to 10 so he won't explode).

And I second the splash of red in a small flower on his lapel - great idea, angeltreats!

And - if you want to give us more of what he is thinking, it's a thought bubble that he needs!

  21. Wow! Awesome! I like your imagination! I love both drawings, but the girl is my favourite, maybe because of that beautiful shade of red which gives her even stronger and more interesting expression! You're a great artist!
