Four more from the 3-ring sketchbook

By this time I was really beginning to enjoy this sketchbook. It was getting near the end but I wanted it to last to the end of the month, so I kept adding pages. I wish it would have held another month so I could have begun the new year with a new sketchbook, but it was getting tight!

What I really like about sketching from movies (and yes, I do sometimes hit pause!), is that it doesn't require me to 'think' much. There are some movies which aren't as easy or interesting to sketch from...for instance, Jackie Chan movies. He is usually moving so fast that he is a blur almost every time I hit pause! Some movies are too dark. Some don't have interesting artifacts to sketch and all I end up with are people. One thing I don't worry too much about is getting likenesses. If I get it, great, if not, move on. Luckily I have a huge collection to choose from! I just don't want to lose the sketching or painting skills that I've built up. So this is practice without worrying about what, when, or where to sketch. It helps during stressful times.

  1. I see how pale these look up here which is disappointing. They are, in reality, very colorful pages! Maybe it is the white background...hmmm.

  2. Wow, someone was really busy drawing! I love those and I can imagine they're even more stunning in their original colorfulness (I know scanners can be a bitch, can't they?). I really like your idea. I usually doodle around too while watching movies/TV shows - why not drawing what I see? I'm gonna try this next time!

  3. Great sketches again, really enjoy the different history and fiction parts (past and movies)... The alian faces are neat and so are the figures on the ground (seen them on a program) and its super interesting to ho wthey made them when there was no airplanes or anything to go up to see them... hmmmm. About the scanner, Im still on ongoing battle with mine, it wont scan and only print when it feels like too, grrrrr!!!

    Great Skethces!!!!

  13. I love your idea of sketching from the movies. I am a movie nut and I never thought about it but they are a great source of inspiration. You've inspired me to give it a try! Thanks!

  14. Fun pages, looks like you had a really good time doing them. Blogspot does allow you to modify your template so that pictures will be on a different colored background from the text body. I did it for my blog, as I didn't like a light surround for my images either but wanted to keep the background under the text light so people could read it easily.

  15. Everything in the Mummy page is fabulous! (also, I love that series of movies ;)!) I totally get what you say about keeping practise and not focussing on the likeness. Love the statue in stone, you render stone amazingly well!

  17. Once again....wonderful painting and drawing.
Scanners drive me crazy(er). I can never get the colours right - in the end I just have to let them go as they are.

  18. You are really good at these Raena, and they are so interesting. I pause the TV sometimes also, then rush and get my camera and take a pic.
