EDM challenge #108

I'm looking a little better today and thus I'm not as grumpy. Thank goodness, I was starting to feel pretty down!

After reading Lynne Chapman's post today, I've decided to post my attempt at challenge #108, and also my first #23...the one I was worried about posting because it wasn't as good. I know a lot of you have mentioned in EDM, and An Illustrated Life, that we can get caught up in trying to keep a certain quality level which only serves to inhibit our creativity. This is something I've struggled with since starting my blog. Notice, I only have nine posts...but I draw much much more than that!

The lightbulb was far more difficult than I anticipated. I thought about getting a simpler bulb, but changed my mind and decided to rough it. The second picture is of my feet...the one I decided to redo because I didn't like the way my legs came out. The third picture is of Kendra, who used to work for me. She was doing her homework during a break.

EDM Challenge #23 Draw your foot

I've had a terrible last few days. Sunday I was stung by a wasp right between the eyes and most of my face has been swollen ever since. Let's just say that a girl doesn't go out in public when she has bags this big! Luckily, I have glasses which help camouflage the bags so I can make some trips out in public...as long as I look down and don't make too much eye contact with anyone! My fingers are crossed they'll be back to normal tomorrow! Right now, I just look ugly!

We've also had thunderstorms and tornado warnings for the last two days. I missed them when I was in Idaho, but I'm getting a little down with all of the gray days. Looking forward to some sunshine!

Well, here are my feet, drawn while watching NCIS tonight. I played around with color in Painter X again, though I wasn't feeling very artistic.

EDM #10, painted

I'm new to painting. (Don't let the watercolors on my previous post mislead you into thinking that I'm an old pro at it...I had an instructor standing over me, telling what to do!) Corel Painter is one of my favorite places to play around with it, since I don't worry about messing up a drawing, or wasting material on something ugly.

So, this is the sketch of my hand, painted with oil paints, in Corel. Very overdone, I think. (especially when I see Janey's !)

My First EDM challenge post

This is for my first post to EDM flickr group. It was a quick sketch, done to test out the new drawing desk my dad built for me. And no, I didn't mess up on the finger; it's a scar!
I don't know why, but I picked up a prismacolor col-erase pencil, in terra cotta, to do this. It took a little tweeking with the scanner to even get it to show up! Quite honestly, I hadn't expected it to turn out since it was so quick.

If you like photography, this is a must see tutorial!

I took black/white photography in college, back when everything was 35mm. Oh how I wish that I had seen this tutorial back then! I've gone digital and because the 35mm and my plethora of lenses and other gear were just taking up space, I sold it! Now I'm kicking myself, because this seems like so much fun!

By the way, I also saw, on the caffenol link, that one guy uses vinegar and water instead of the fixer.

I wonder how much that pawn shop would charge me for my gear back?

A Girl from my Imagination

This was done on my computer, using Painter X. I don't really have a feel for the program yet, so this is just a simple colored pencil sketch. She's from imagination, which would probably explain the wonky eyes!

Some old stuff

The first drawing was done while a student at Texas A&M University, back in the early nineties. The second two were done in 2001, while living in Boise. I briefly took a watercolor class from Roland Giampaoli. Unfortunately I had to quit because the business my husband and I had opened started to take off and was too busy for me to be away. (maybe not so unfortunate!) I cannot claim to have drawn the pictures, since Roland gave us drawings to copy from and then paint however we wanted. I tended to paint stormy skies because that is something I really missed about Texas at the time. I love a good thunderstorm!

Homeless Guy

This photo, www.morguefile.com/archive/display/559261, was uploaded by bboomerindenial. The further I got with this sketch, the more I wished I had started with pencil. Pen is unforgiving and if you mess up, you either make it work, or you trash it. I'm glad I didn't trash it even though I wanted to a few times. Even with all the mistakes I still see a resemblance, so I am satisfied.

I really need to work on my writing skills. I used to be all right but now I am rusty and don't like it at all!
