EDM challenge #108

I'm looking a little better today and thus I'm not as grumpy. Thank goodness, I was starting to feel pretty down!

After reading Lynne Chapman's post today, I've decided to post my attempt at challenge #108, and also my first #23...the one I was worried about posting because it wasn't as good. I know a lot of you have mentioned in EDM, and An Illustrated Life, that we can get caught up in trying to keep a certain quality level which only serves to inhibit our creativity. This is something I've struggled with since starting my blog. Notice, I only have nine posts...but I draw much much more than that!

The lightbulb was far more difficult than I anticipated. I thought about getting a simpler bulb, but changed my mind and decided to rough it. The second picture is of my feet...the one I decided to redo because I didn't like the way my legs came out. The third picture is of Kendra, who used to work for me. She was doing her homework during a break.

  1. These are great, Raena. Especially the feet - feet are so hard to draw. You're right, it's so hard not to get hung up on doing "good" drawings but I don't think you have anything to worry about in that department :)

  2. Thank you Angeltreats! But you know, I actually had more trouble with the lightbulb than I did with my feet! Thank you for your kind words!

  3. Wow Raena. You've been holding back. These drawings are great - I like them even better than the earlier drawings you posted.

  4. I think they are all really good! :) The shadings on the bulb, the natural flowing lines of the legs, the heavy outlines of the person's sketch, that's very characteristic and interesting! ^^ Great job!

  6. Hi Raena - how nice to meet you (from commenting on my yesterday art workshop post). I think your feet work is outstanding in the earlier post and this one. Great sketches with firm strong confident lines. I'll keep in touch with your new posts.
